World Teachers' Day 2022

OCTOBER 5, 2022 -- Every year on October 5th, the world celebrates World Teachers’ Day to highlight the responsibilities, rights and the value of teachers. UNESCO introduced World Teachers’ Day in 1994 to draw attention to teachers’ contributions and achievements, as well as to teachers’ concerns and objectives in education. The date of October 5th was chosen as the international day to honour teachers since it was on that date in 1966 that a special intergovernmental meeting accepted the UNESCO Recommendation on the Status of Teachers.

The theme of World Teachers' Day 2022 is "The transformation of education begins with teachers."

Thank you to teachers for everything they do!

Fire Prevention Week

SEPTEMBER 28, 2022 -- The 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week is October 9 to 15, 2022, and the theme is "Fire won't wait. Plan your escape." Today's homes burn faster than ever. You may have as little as two minutes (or even less time) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning. Visit the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) official Fire Prevention Week website for tons of great information, activities, ideas, resources and more!

Orange Shirt Day/National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

SEPTEMBER 26, 2022 -- The Saskatchewan Ministry of Education has proclaimed September 30, 2022 as Orange Shirt Day, and the Government of Canada has proclaimed it as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Even though schools will be closed on Friday, September 30th and Division Office will be closed to the public, students and staff will still participate in truth and reconciliation activities throughout this week. It is also a timely starting point in the school year for sharing Indigenous ways of knowing, learning from Elders and knowledge keepers, and engaging in land-based education.
