International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

MAY 15, 2026 — May 17th is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Established in 2004, the day affirms the right of all members of 2SLGBTQIAP+ communities to live freely as themselves in all countries and in all spheres—at school, at work, in broader society and at home. Its date commemorates May 17, 1990, when the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from a list of mental health disorders in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). It is a day to celebrate gender and sexual diversity and to condemn the discrimination, violence and stigma that members of 2SLGBTQIAP+ communities continue to experience in Canada and globally.

This year’s theme is “At the heart of democracy."

Moose Hide Campaign Day

MAY 13, 2026—Moose Hide Campaign Day is on Thursday, May 14, 2026. This campaign is an Indigenous-led national movement to end gender-based violence. Wearing a moose hide pin shows support for honouring, respecting, and protecting women, children, and all those along the gender continuum while advancing reconciliation.

You can pick up a free Moose Hide Campaign pin at the TELUS store in the Cornwall Centre in Regina (while supplies last).

2026 Spark Literacy Award Winner!

MAY 13, 2026—Congratulations to Wyatt M., a Grade 2 student at École Connaught School in Regina, for receiving the 2026 Spark Literacy Award! Presented by Innovation Federal Credit Union, this award celebrates Wyatt’s determination, growth, and hard work in Foundations Learning & Skills Saskatchewan’s Spark reading program.

Spark currently serves over 260 children in five school divisions, including Regina Public Schools. The program supports students in Grades 2 to 4 with one-on-one volunteer reading sessions that build confidence, phonics, comprehension, and a love of reading. In 2025, 96% of teachers reported improved reading skills and strategies in Spark participants.

Jewish Heritage Month

Canadian Jewish Heritage Month is celebrated annually throughout May to recognize the over 250-year history, culture, and vital contributions of Jewish Canadians to this country. It is a time for all Canadians to learn more about Jewish heritage and to celebrate the enduring legacy of Jewish life in Canada. The month also highlights resilience while addressing rising antisemitism through education and community events.
