OCTOBER 17, 2022 -- Saskatchewan Library Week (SLW) is October 16 to 22, 2022 and the theme for this year is Libraries Expand Horizons. This theme highlights libraries' dynamic and innovative approach to building communities and supporting individuals with lifelong learning.

OCTOBER 13, 2022 -- October 16th to 22nd is Education Week in Saskatchewan, a time to celebrate student success and the hard work and dedication of education professionals across the province. This year's theme is "Reaching for Tomorrow, Celebrating Today/Célébrons le present, Préparons l’avenir." The theme highlights the role of education in supporting students in reaching and building for their future and the shared future of our province.

OCTOBER 3, 2022 -- The Treaty 4 flag is now flying at Lakeview School! As the sun was rising on September 21st, staff joined Indigenous Education Coordinator Jeff Cappo on the front lawn to learn how to put up a tipi. After the tipi was raised, Elder Frank and Knowledge Keeper Joely BigEagle-Kequahtooway performed pipe ceremonies and blessed the Treaty 4 flag. Participating in the pipe ceremony was a first for most staff members and was a very special part of their day.

Once the students arrived, the entire school assembled on the front lawn. Elder Sharon said a prayer followed by speeches from Principal Laurie Ellis, Superintendent Lois Herridge, SCC Co-chair Shannon Williams and Trustee Adam Hicks.

SEPTEMBER 30, 2022 -- To prepare for the 2022-23 school year, the F.W. Johnson Collegiate learning leader and administration team, along with Indigenous Advocate Deanna Pelletier, created a PD plan called “ka-takosininaw”—we will get there. In its third year, their journey of reconciliation is committed to actions and learning from the land.

On August 30^th, F.W. Johnson staff gathered at Lumsden Beach Camp for their opening professional development. The day began with an opening smudge followed by Elder Hazel Dixon sharing teaching about the sacred medicines of tobacco and sage with the staff. Elder Lloyd Carrier taught about the importance of learning from the land and building on the gifts that students bring with them.
