JUNE 1, 2025—Throughout Saskatchewan, June is known as Gender and Sexual Diversity Pride Month! It is a time to celebrate acceptance, human rights and diversity. These celebrations are important because they recognize the achievements and ongoing struggles of the 2SLGBTQIAP+ community, advocate for equality and foster a sense of community.
In Regina Public Schools, it is important that we demonstrate our Shared Values, including our values of belonging and respect. As a school division, we continue our commitment to ensuring that 2SLGBTQIAP+ staff, students, families and allies feel included, protected and respected.

MAY 16, 2025—May 18th is National Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Day, a time to recognize and celebrate the vital work of SLPs in supporting communication, connection and confidence across all ages.
SLPs are highly skilled professionals who assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing and social communication challenges. Whether helping a child find their first words, supporting a student in understanding classroom directions or guiding someone through recovery after a stroke, SLPs empower individuals to express themselves and thrive.
MAY 15, 2025—On behalf of Regina Public Schools’ administration, the Regina Board of Education and the staff and students of École Elsie Mironuck School, we advise of the passing of Elsie Mironuck at the age of 101.
École Elsie Mironuck Community School opened under the name of Sherwood School in 1962. Elsie Mironuck was Principal of Sherwood School for 15 years (1972-1987). She was a dedicated teacher and principal working in the education field for 45 years, 39 of those spent at Regina Public Schools.
Following her retirement, Elsie often visited the school and participated in their learning and celebrations. She was also a frequent participant and organizer of Regina Public Schools superannuates’ activities.
MAY 15, 2025 — May 17th is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. Established in 2004, the day affirms the right of all members of 2SLGBTQIAP+ communities to live freely as themselves in all countries and in all spheres—at school, at work, in broader society and at home. Its date commemorates May 17, 1990, when the World Health Organization (WHO) removed homosexuality from a list of mental health disorders in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). It is a day to celebrate gender and sexual diversity and to condemn the discrimination, violence and stigma that members of 2SLGBTQIAP+ communities continue to experience in Canada and globally.
This year’s theme is “The power of communities."
MAY 1, 2025—May is Asian Heritage Month. It is an opportunity for us to learn more about the many achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian heritage who, throughout our history, have done so much to make Canada the country we know and love.
The theme for Asian Heritage Month 2025 is “Unity in Diversity: The Impact of Asian Communities in Shaping Canadian Identity.” This theme acknowledges the abundance of diversity present among Asian Canadian communities, and how this richness has contributed to building a unifying Canadian identity. The diverse nature of Asian Canadian communities is considered as one of their strengths, just as it is in our Canadian identity.
