MARCH 31, 2025—March 31st is National Indigenous Languages Day, an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to celebrate and honour Indigenous languages in Canada. There are more than 70 Indigenous languages across 12 language families in the country. This day is an important reminder of the critical role that Indigenous languages play in preserving the history, culture and identity of Indigenous communities.

Regina Public Schools is proud to offer Cree at Albert, Coronation Park, Kitchener, Rosemont, Seven Stones and Thomson Schools, as well as at Balfour and Scott Collegiates. Michif is offered at McDermid School (and will be at the new tawâw school once opened).

MARCH 26, 2025 — Regina Public Schools publishes a monthly newsletter that celebrates the accomplishments of students and staff; reports on significant events, programs and community involvement; and highlights the activities that demonstrate our Shared Values of respect, belonging, knowledge and responsibility.

MARCH 20, 2025—World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), held on March 21^st every year, is a global awareness day that has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for WDSD of the 21^st day of the 3^rd month was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21^st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

This year’s theme is “Improve Our Support Systems,” emphasizing the need for tailored support that empowers individuals with Down syndrome and their families, focusing on choice, control and dignity. People with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities encounter stereotypes every day and are often underestimated, excluded, treated poorly and even abused.

MARCH 19, 2025—March 21st is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This day commemorates the Sharpeville Massacre that occurred in South Africa on March 21, 1960, when 69 people were killed by police at a peaceful protest against apartheid. It is a day observed all around the world to focus attention on the issues of racism (personal and systemic), oppression, bias, white privilege, colonization, racial inequity/injustice, and truth and reconciliation. Canada was one of the first countries to support the UN initiative and launched its first annual campaign against racial discrimination in 1989.

The Regina Board of Education has endorsed four boundary changes on March 18, 2025. These boundary changes will be effective for the upcoming 2025-26 school year and will affect approximately 225 students and their families.

MARCH 14, 2025—Neurodiversity Celebration Week will take place from March 17th to 23rd with the theme “Celebrating Different Minds.” It happens worldwide and challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurodevelopmental disorders and learning disabilities. It is a chance to celebrate the unique ways in which all of us learn, work and play as well as an opportunity to reflect on how this individuality makes us stronger together. 

MARCH 3, 2025—March is Women's History Month, and International Women's Day is celebrated around the world each year on March 8th. The month and day are to recognize the achievements of women and girls, to focus on gender bias and inequality, and to continue creating a more inclusive society. This year's theme is "Accelerate Action."
