The SCC Forum with Trustees was held on the evening of November 20th at F.W. Johnson Collegiate. There were more than 140 people in attendance, including SCC members, principals and vice-principals, Division Office staff and trustees.

Chairperson Katherine Gagne brought opening remarks and welcomed everyone to the forum. Director Greg Enion shared information on the “big rocks” and the Education Sector Strategic Plan, and Dr. Debbie Pushor, professor from the University of Saskatchewan, gave a presentation on parent engagement. Four break-out sessions were formed prior to the forum and attendees registered and chose their preference of session. Sessions were led by principals and vice-principals, and note takers were also assigned to each group to gather discussion points.

This past month, students in Albert Community School’s Grades 1/2 class received a new classroom library. Over 500 new, culturally relevant,age-appropriate books were donated, along with a cozy new reading space. This classroom library was made possible by United Way Regina, Access Children’s Fund and the South Saskatchewan Community Foundation.

Regina School Division No. 4 of Saskatchewan serves the educational needs of more than 23,000 students in 44 public elementary schools, 8 public high schools and three faith-based, associate schools. Katherine Gagne was acclaimed as Chairperson of the Regina Board of Education at the Board’s Organizational Meeting held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Mrs. Gagne has served on the Board as a trustee since her initial election in 2009. She most recently served as Chairperson for the Regina Board of Education.

At that same Organizational Meeting, Adam Hicks was declared elected, by acclamation, to the position of Vice-Chairperson of the Regina Board of Education. Mr. Hicks has served on the Board as a trustee since his initial election in 2016.

The election of Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson occurs annually at the Regina Board of Education’s open-to-the-public Organizational Meeting.

On the evening of September 26th, Regina Public Schools hosted a “Social Media Awareness and Parenting the Digital World” event at Campus Regina Public for approximately 250 participants. Sam Jingfors, from Safer Schools Together, presented on all things digital to the audience that was mostly comprised of parents of school-aged children.
