Grant for Argyle Playground

June 12, 2023 - Thank you to Federated Co-operatives Limited who awarded newly opened Argyle School's School Community Council with a $27,000 grant for a new playground. Thanks to the school community council for its continued advocacy for the Argyle School Outdoor Space Revitalization Project.

Building Bridges to the Community

JUNE 8, 2023 — Thank you to all of the students and families who came out to Regina Public Schools’ second Community Transition Fair at Campus Regina Public on April 5, 2023! Students and teachers from the Vocational Alternative Programs (VAP), Functional Integrated Alternative Program (FIAP) and Developmental Centre (DC) classrooms participated in a self-guided tour of various community partner exhibits.

2023 SK Regional Braille Challenge

JUNE 7, 2023 — On March 2, 2023, the Program for Students with Visual Impairments (PSVI) at Arcola Community School hosted the inaugural Regional Braille Challenge for Saskatchewan. Pamela Tarr, Qualified Teacher of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired (QTVI), did an amazing job of researching, promoting and organizing this event.

Students from Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools and Arcola Community School were thrilled to participate in the preliminary challenge of the international competition hosted by The Braille Institute of America, Inc. (Los Angeles, California). Students participated in a variety of timed skills challenges, including reading comprehension, spelling, speed and accuracy, proofreading, and charts and graphs.

Ethel Milliken Students Reflect about RIIS

JUNE 7, 2023 — Last month, the Grades 3 and 4/5 classes at Ethel Milliken School learned from Mr. Bill Wall about the Regina Indian Industrial School (RIIS) and the cemetery off Pinkie Road.

Bill, together with the classroom teachers, provided extensive history and insight into the significance of the cemetery and the children who are buried there during his classroom visit as well as the visit to the cemetery. The students spent time quietly walking the perimeter, reflecting on the stories told about the Regina Indian Industrial School. The students left apple slices as a gift to the children as they paid their respects at the graves.

Youth Anti-Racism Symposium

JUNE 6, 2023 — On Tuesday, May 9th, École Wilfrid Walker School held their first youth anti-racism symposium for students in Grades 5 to 8. The symposium was planned as a result of the Tell Them From Me survey that students completed at the beginning of the school year, as well as general student feedback to teachers and administration that indicated they wanted more education about racism.
