Kitchener Indigenous Advocate's Writing Featured on CBC

March 17, 2021 -- Kitchener Community School's Indigenous Advocate, Jessica Madiratta, recently wrote an opinion piece for CBC Saskatchewan. In her writing, she shared her experiences as an Indigenous girl attending school that didn't reflect who she was. The piece reiterates the strength and resilience of Indigenous peoples and how Indigenizing and decolonizing education is for the good of all students.

"...we also must all teach students how strong Indigenous people are...I want to instill children with the knowledge their Indigenous identity deserves to be celebrated, and that they can overcome the negative stereotypes perpetuated in social media and on comment boards."

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

MARCH 15, 2021 -- March 21st is designated by the United Nations (UN) as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination to focus on respect, equality and diversity.

It’s a day observed all around the world to focus attention on the problems of racism and the need to promote racial harmony. The UN made this designation in 1966 to mark a tragic event that took place on March 21, 1960 in Sharpeville, South Africa when 69 peaceful demonstrators were killed during a protest against apartheid.

Canada was one of the first countries to support the UN initiative and launched its first annual campaign against racial discrimination in 1989.

eSchool Learning

MARCH 29, 2021 – Updated -- Regina Public Schools is now providing remote learning for the 2020-21 school year. eSchool – Regina Public Schools Online Learning is for students who require an alternative way of learning outside of a school classroom during the COVID-19 pandemic.

WorkSafe Youth Video Contest

MARCH 10, 2021 -- WorkSafe Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) invite students in Grades 9 to 12 to create a two-minute video about workplace health and safety. The theme "Focus on safety" must be used. Prizes range from $500 to $1,500.

The contest closes on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.
