Suicide Prevention Month and Day

SEPTEMBER 8, 2025—Every day in Canada, 13 people die by suicide. Thirteen families lose someone they love. Thirteen circles of friends, classmates, or colleagues are forever changed.

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and on September 10th, World Suicide Prevention Day. This is a time to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and share hope and support with those who have been impacted.

This month, we’re reminded of the growing need for person-centred approaches to mental health and wellness. Whether as individuals, family members, friends, colleagues, or leaders, each of us has a role to play in creating compassionate spaces where people feel safe to reach out for support. Everyday actions are opportunities to show care, spark connection, and remind someone they’re not alone.

Here are a few ways to take action in everyday life:

1. Check in with yourself and others.

2. Normalize conversations about mental health.

3. Know where to turn for help.

Help and resources are available.
