Sarah Cummings Truszkowski

Sarah Cummings Truszkowski is delighted to begin the role of Chairperson for the Regina Board of Education. Sarah lives in the Cathedral neighbourhood with her partner, Robert, and three children who all attend Regina Public Schools. She is a past School Community Council Chairperson and longtime community volunteer.

Sarah is not new to the education system as she has both a Bachelor of Education from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Education degree from the University of Regina. Sarah was a high school Visual Arts teacher before having children, and now she teaches painting and drawing classes from her home studio.

Since being elected as a trustee in 2020, Sarah wrote “Poverty in Regina Public Schools,” a report that investigated the root causes of child poverty and how the Division, City and other levels of government can help eradicate poverty for students in our schools. Sarah also co-chaired the Indigenous Education Advisory Council (with Vanéa Cyr, Regina Public Schools’ Indigenous Education Supervisor). Sarah also served as Vice-Chair of the Regina Board of Education for two years before being elected as Chairperson in September 2023.

Sarah’s primary interests as a trustee include working to eradicate poverty, speaking up for public education, community engagement, and creating an inclusive and equitable school system where all students feel that they belong. In her spare time, Sarah likes to bake delicious desserts and make art, and she loves long walks with her pug, Winston!
