Pink Shirt Day 2026

FEBRUARY 23, 2026—Pink Shirt Day is an annual observation that takes place on the last Wednesday of February and this year, it falls on Wednesday, February 25th. People wear pink shirts to signify they stand against bullying and harassment. The day started in Canada and is now observed on various dates around the world!

Pink Shirt Day was established in 2007 after two Nova Scotia students, in 2006, supported a student who was being targeted with homophobic slurs and threats for wearing a pink polo shirt. The two students purchased and distributed several pink shirts at school the next day. Not only were the purchased shirts worn, but reports indicate hundreds of students showed up the next day wearing their own pink clothing. The visual shift in the power differential sent a powerful message of safety and inclusion to all students. The link to the original news article can be found here.

This day has become an important one to show solidarity and to empower individuals to speak out against bullying, homophobia and transphobia. All staff and students have a right to learn, work and interact in a safe, caring and inclusive environment. These rights are underscored in both AP 110: Equity, Diversity & Inclusion and in AP 353: Students and Gender and Sexual Diversity. Diversity is our strength!
