Runners Help Feed Students

May 11, 2024 – The Jaleta Pacers Royal Road Race was held today at the RCMP Depot Division grounds in Regina. Proceeds from the 2024 Royal Road Race went to food insecurity in Regina Public Schools. Following the race, Ted Jaleta, who is also a Regina Board of Education Trustee, presented a cheque for $20,238 to Darren Boldt, Director of Education. An additional $1,000 was donated from the Regina & District Labour Council.

These funds will be used throughout the school division’s community schools to support nutrition programs that provide small snacks, emergency lunches and other nutritious items that benefit students who may come to school hungry. One educator noted that “we recognize that students can’t learn at their best, regulate their emotions, and process social situations if their tummies aren’t full. We try to do whatever we can to support these students.”

Thanks to the Jaleta Pacers organization, the racers and everyone who contributed to helping feed students so they can learn.

Students from École Wascana Plains and Douglas Park School, several Regina Board of Education trustees and a number of Regina Public Schools employees also participated in the event.
