Beaded Quilt Project at Campbell Collegiate

MARCH 25, 2021 -- Sometimes art takes many hands and years to complete. The “Beaded Quilt” project at Campbell Collegiate is one such endeavour.

Over the past several years, Visual Art students from Nicolle Montague’s and Shaune Marchtaler’s Grades 10, 11 and 12 classes have learned the skill and process of beading. Drawing inspiration from Métis floral beading; the Lakota, Dakota and Assiniboine Star patterns; and historical events, students created their own blocks of beading. After a few years of collecting blocks of the right size and shape from the students, the quilt was ready to be constructed.

Anti-Bullying Awareness at Rosemont

MARCH 25, 2021 -- Fredrick Kohuch, Kindergarten teacher at Rosemont Community School, spearheaded a collective anti-bullying project for roadrunner staff and students in support of the teaching and learning being done in support of anti-bullying.

During this project, staff and students could be seen taking photos of themselves holding their hands out in front of their faces, displaying a “stop motion” signal. The photographs show student hands painted in pink with the rest in black and white. The purpose of this edit is to capture the attention of the viewer and to highlight the various captions: “I’m an Advocate for Anti-Bullying;” “Stop Bullying;” “Don’t Stand By;” “Stand Up” and many other slogans that spread awareness for anti-bullying.

Affinity Helps Out Bryant Students

DECEMBER 23, 2020 -- For the first time in decades, Judge Bryant School was unable to host their Santa Store. Having been faced with the loss of recreational activities, extracurricular opportunities, and some in-school learning, the Santa Store is another in a long series of things that have been taken away from students this year.

As a result, the Judge Bryant staff wanted to make sure their students received something for the holidays. Enter Affinity Credit Union to the rescue, who came through with a $1,500 grant. Another benefactor of kids, First Books Canada, provided boxes and boxes of books at all reading levels.
