Students learned several dances from around the world in their Physical Education and Arts Education classes.</p> <p>A big thank you to teachers Inderjit Kamboz and Brianne McFetridge for supporting learners and sharing their knowledge of dance with students. The culminating project was choreographing performances in groups, which resulted in dances from India, Africa, the Philippines, New Zealand, Mexico, and the Middle East, as well as Métis jigging. She had many stories to tell and all of them simultaneously focused on art and the creative process as well as obtaining an education.</p> <p>In 1988, Sherry obtained an MEd (Curriculum and Instruction) from the University of Regina and in 2004, Sherry completed a PhD (Interdisciplinary program) from the University of Manitoba. The Grade 6 students also taught the younger grades how to snowshoe and the importance of the buffalo. Russell is a faculty member with the Saskatchewan Urban Native Teacher Education Program (SUNTEP), and he is based out of the University of Regina campus. Russell is Métis and from the Qu’Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan. He is a Michif speaker and says he is still learning his language.</p> <p>Russell began his presentation at Albert School with a jovial hello to everyone and then started to introduce himself in his Michif language. Once he finished his introduction in Michif, he explained to everyone what he said and what it meant to him to be able to speak his language. Chef Jenni and the students harvested rosehips for the rosehip lime butter to go with her grandmother’s baked bannock recipe.
